The (re)Generation Gap
There are, of course, many Who fans out there for whom Who is a recently discovered passion. For whom the 2nd Doctor is David Tennant rather than Patrick Troughton.
But with nearly 50 years of material where to begin.
Luckily Matt is here to help us plug the (re)Generation Gap.

One Minutes Silence
Whilst this column is only just approaching the third ever episode of Doctor Who James and I are much further ahead in our episodes. Just this week we finished watching “The Seeds of Doom” and are currently two episodes in of “The Masque of Mandragora”. Not only that James has finished watching the first two seasons of “The Sarah Jane Adventures” which he is enjoying enormously. It was only yesterday that James remarked that the next story on our itinerary is “The Hand of Fear” and he did so with sadness as it’s Sarah Jane’s last adventure with the fourth Doctor. Then he said, “At least we’ll still have Sarah in her own adventures to look forward to.” I’m sure you can all imagine where I am going with this…
Upon awakening this morning I was greeted with the news that Elisabeth Sladen had passed away at the criminally young age of 63. As I sat there absorbing this sad news I wondered how James would take it. Children tend to live in their own little World so whilst they are saddened by deaths they tend to get over such instances quite quickly. So this morning I sat James down and told him that the lady who plays Sarah Jane died last night. His little face fell, he looked at his hands and muttered quietly, “Oh.”
“Are you sad?”, I asked.
“Yes.”
“Because there will be no more Sarah Jane Adventures on television?”
“No”, he quietly said, “Because she was lovely and kind.” I’ll be honest, my eyes filled up.
Elizabeth Sladen had touched me as a boy and she had repeated that marvellous feat once again over thirty years later. She was truly remarkable. She will be sadly missed in my household and I imagine by boys and girls of all ages all over the country.
Farewell Sarah Jane. Say hello to The Brigadier and Harry when you see them. All our love xxx
